Shadwick Named Patriot Scholar-Athlete of the Year
HAMILTON – For the second straight year Colgate Volleyball senior outside hitter Abby Shadwick has been named the Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year, highlighting Colgate's three academic honorees. Fifth-year senior libero Taylor Cigna and senior middle blocker Greta Hoogstra joined Shadwick on the Academic All-Patriot League team.
A three-time Patriot League champion, All-Patriot League First Team selection, and Academic All-Patriot League honoree, Shadwick is an Arts and Arts History major sporting a 3.78 cumulative GPA.
The Lexington, Ky., native has served three years as Colgate's Picker Art Gallery and Longyear Museum Attendant, participating in Special Collections Handling training (2023 and 2024) and Cultural Sensitivity training (2024) as part of her major. She also has served as a Student Outreach Coordinator (2023), collaborating with the Chair of Art and Art History department.
Shadwick becomes Colgate's first two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and she's the first Patriot League volleyball player to earn it back-to-back years since Navy's Patricia Mattingly won it three consecutive seasons 2016-2018.
Hoogstra, a computer science major, hailing from Elmhurst, Ill., and Cigna, a women's studies major from Glenshaw, Pa., joined Shadwick on the 10-player Academic All-Patriot League team. Colgate's three honorees are the most in a single-season in program history.
