ITHACA, N.Y. — Trailing in an early 2–0 deficit, Colgate could not complete the reverse sweep against Cornell, ultimately falling 3–1.
Set 1 (Cornell 25, Colgate 23)
- Both teams started the match by trading points back and forth
- The Raiders were able to gain distance in a six point stretch from kills from Deren Cukur, Frances Torres, and Milan Bayless to go up 12–6.
- The Big Red slowly caught up and went on a five-point run to take a late 17–16 lead.
- The Raiders tied the set at 19 and took a 22–20 advantage, however the Big Red rallied for four points to take a 24–22 lead.
- Colgate's Milan Bayless contributed significantly with multiple kills, including a crucial one at 23-24.
- Cornell edged Colgate in set one, 25–23, following a Raider service error.
Set 2 (Cornell 25, Colgate 17)
- Early in the set, there were two lead changes until the Big Red took the lead, 10–7
- Colgate earned three points off a Bayless kill and two Cornell errors.
- Cornell widened the gap with a four-point run to take a 15–10 lead.
- Colgate earned a few points but the Big Red kept pushing and extended their lead to 20–13.
- Colgate playing catch up earned three more points but Cornell's offensive push off Raider's errors helped them prevail, 25–17, and take a 2–0 lead in the math.
Third Set (Colgate 25, Cornell 18)
- Early mistakes by the Big Red and a Carlie Rzeszotarski kill helped Colgate obtain their first lead of the set.
- Trading points for points, Colgate started to take control in the set from two key kills from Bayless and a Cornell error to go up 10–8.
- Cornell made a small push to take a 13–11 lead but that was quickly halted by three Raider kills and two Big Red errors to reclaim a 16–13 lead.
- Colgate did not look back, unleashing an attacking surge to close out set three on top 25–18.
Set 4 (Cornell 25, Colgate 19)
- Pressure mounted in set four as there were three early lead changes between the teams.
- Cornell took a 6–5 advantage and did not allow the Raiders to lead again for the rest of the set.
- Colgate's Jordyn Moore contributed significantly with four kills in the set.
- The Raiders kept the match close up until the Big Red's 11–10 lead.
- Cornell started to break away, 15–10. Colgate earned a couple scattered points but Cornell embarked on a six point unanswered run to take a sizable lead, 23–15.
- Colgate attempted a near-impossible comeback but Cornell took set four, 25–17 to win 3–1.
GAME NOTES
- Bayless for the seventh game in a row has led the Raiders in kills, tonight with 14.
- Maddie Rudolph tallied five kills off 10 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, Lal Akin notched three kills and five total blocks.
- First year Jordyn Moore played a pivotal role in the Raiders offense logging five kills and 10 digs.
