Join us for a panel discussion with Francesca Zambello and the Kiss the Sky artistic team, Christopher Tin, Kelley Rourke, and Jessica Lang, to discuss what opera is, why is Kiss the Sky important today, and how the artistic team behind the innovative new opera-ballet challenges conventional opera.No tickets are required; free and open to the public, with a light reception to follow.This event is part of the Clifford Family Innovator-in-Residence program. Indecent Film Screening: The true story of a little Jewish Play

Inspired by true events, Indecent, the2017 Tony-award winning play by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paula Vogel, chronicles the international production life of Sholem Asch's 1907 Yiddish smash hit, God of Vengeance, culminating in its 1923 English-language Broadway debut that was met with scandalized outrage and featured the first lesbian kiss on a Broadway stage.Indecent movingly historizes the original Yiddish play's relationship to the rapidly evolving contexts of early-tomid-20thcentury Europe and the US, powerfully framing larger questions of cultural needs and developments amidst precarious conditions of change

Unraveled: Labor and Meaning Behind Weaving

This exhibition, curated by 10 students in the Fall 2024 semester of MUSE 300: Museum Curating, features the themes of textiles and weaving. Showcasing works from the Longyear Museum of Anthropology’s basket and world textile collections, this exhibition explores the incredible amount of labor and skill that goes into creating woven art. The exhibition takes a comparative view of textiles from around the world, introducing the community significance of different designs and individual stylistic choices. The exhibition discusses how fiber art forms have changed as local and global markets develop, as well as the role that clothing can play in displays of nationalism and politics. Ultimately, Unraveled aims to inspire viewers to consider the benefits of hand-crafted works and foster an appreciation for the people behind the woven things we use and love each and every day.The exhibition features several new acquisitions, including three new works acquired from the Jalabil Maya women’s weaving collective during their artist residency last fall.
