Books are essential parts of our history, culture, and education—but often only discussed for the information they contain, not the other elements that constitute them. This event will center on the study of the book as an object and consider the many elements of book production that contribute to the way books shape our world.Keynote presentations from Colgate alumni Kieran Blunnie ‘24 and Sonia Shannon ‘82 will address traditional and modern artistic practices necessary for book production, while a presentation from Ernie Nelson ‘25, followed by a guided conversation between Nelson and Jordan Smith ‘24, will address what it means when books are destroyed in contemporary contexts.We invite you to join with other book and graphic arts enthusiasts for conversation on the many facets of books.Lunch will be provided; we encourage you to RSVP by February 21 to give us an estimate of attendees.Co-sponsored by AHUM, UNST, Alumni Engagement, and Career Services.

Please join Colgate's Associate Provost for Sustainability as he shares his personal experiences working on the Florida Panther Recovery Project in South Florida. At a time when the Florida panther was teetering on the brink of extinction, a small team of biologists, conservationists, and trackers employed extraordinary — and sometimes risky — measures to save this iconic species. Through personal stories, field experiences, and reflections on the people he met along the way, John will provide a firsthand account of the setbacks, the triumphs, and the innovative efforts that helped pull the panther back from the edge of extinction. This presentation offers a unique look at an endangered species recovery effort that remains a powerful case study in wildlife conservation.Hot wraps by Hamilton Whole Foods will be provided and will include gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free options.
