The project examines how George Soros’ lifelong advancement of his liberal open society vision shaped the post–Cold War information order. Drawing on archives, interviews, and media analysis, it traces Soros-funded outlets, journalist training programs, telecommunications infrastructure, and other forms of “information philanthropy” to reconstruct how these initiatives sought to embed liberal norms in post-socialist public spheres. Ho Mind, Brain, and Behavior Initiative's 2025-2026 speaker series "Biased Minds, Biased Brains, Biased Behaviors" kicks off with a lecture by Maria Antoniak, assistant professor of computer science at the University Colorado - Boulder.Professor Antoniak's research focuses on natural language processing and cultural analytics. She develops and critically evaluates computational methods to analyze how language reflects culture and society, particularly in online communities and healthcare settings.
