Men’s Basketball Announces Class of 2028

HAMILTON – Colgate University Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt Langel has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the Class of 2028.

HAMILTON – Colgate University Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt Langel has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the Class of 2028. 

Three guards and two forwards, hailing from two different states and two Canadian provinces, are set to join the four-time defending Patriot League champions in 2024-25.

"One of the great things about being a college coach is the chance to bring new young people to join a team and institution," said five-time Patriot League Coach of the Year Langel. "We are very much looking forward to what these young men can do for Colgate, and what Colgate can do to help them achieve their potential and realize their dreams."

The incoming student-athletes are listed below in alphabetical order:

Before Colgate
Spent his postgraduate year at Crestwood Prep in Toronto, Ontario, where he averaged 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists en route to garnering Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) All-Star honors in 2023-24…averaged 24.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists during his high school career at Strathcona High School…named the 2022-23 Alberta Men's Basketball Player of the Year…two-time First Team Metro League All-Star…helped lead his team to the Alberta Provincial Championship and Edmonton City Championship in 2022-23…named the men's basketball most valuable player at both Strathcona and Crestwood Prep…member of national honor society.

Personal
Born: Joshua Ahayere in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Family: Son of Henry and Gloria…has three brothers, Chris, Matthew, and Samuel…also has one sister, Philomena.

Coach Langel on Josh: "Josh is a versatile basketball player who will help our program in many ways. His physicality, strength and size for a perimeter player will help him on both ends of the floor. He can guard multiple positions and has shown that he can score as well as distribute the basketball."

Before Colgate
Graduated as the program's all-time block leader at Polaris Prep of National Preparatory Association (NPA), playing three years of varsity basketball for head coach Ray Kim…averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game during his high school career…twice named Most Improved Player…posted 15 points and 10 boards per game as a senior…helped lead his team to a third-place NPA finish in 2024…three-time Honor Roll member.

Personal
Born: Cameron Xavier Brennan in Burlington, Ontario.
Family: Son of Tracey Ball and Sean Brennan…has one brother, Connor.

Coach Langel on Cameron: "Cam is a true 7-footer whose height alone will allow him to impact the game at the rim on defense. His touch around the basket and ability to step away from the basket will be welcomed weapons on the offensive end."
 


Ethan Brown

Peterborough, Ontario | Orangeville Prep

Before Colgate
Played three years of varsity basketball at Adam Scott CVI...averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists per game during his career…spent a postgraduate year playing for Orangeville Prep and United Scholastic Academy in 2023-24...All-Canadian nominee in 2024 after registering 14 points, eight rebounds, and two assists per game…helped lead the team to Bronze medal in the Provincial championships…also named a Team Canada nominee and voted Most Valuable Player on his squad in 2023…four-time member of the Honor Roll with Distinction…also played varsity volleyball.

Born: Ethan Alexander Brown in Cobourg, Ontario.
Family: Son of Amy West and Jeremiah Brown…has three sisters, Evonne, Isla, Penelope.

Coach Langel on Ethan: "Ethan is an exceptional athlete who can impact a game in many ways. His ability to shoot, attack the basket, score around the rim and guard multiple positions with his height and length are all things that can create matchup advantages for us on offense and defense."
 


Stevie Clark

Before Colgate
All-time leading scorer at Oshkosh North, playing for head coach Brad Weber…accumulated 1,979 points career points along with 537 rebounds, 308 assists, and 164 steals in four years of varsity basketball…three-time All-State honoree and garnered All-Fox Valley Association (FVA) First Team honors after averaging 22.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game as a senior…three-time All-FVA selection, also named First Team and league's scoring champion as a junior…only male basketball player in state of Wisconsin to earn the 2024 Legacy Leadership Award…helped lead the team to the 2024 FVA conference title and regional championships in 2021 and 2022…three-year captain…graduated with honors…also played varsity baseball.

Born: Steven Randall Clark in Oshkosh, Wis. 
Family: Son of Brad Clark and Erin Randall-Clark…has three brothers, Oscar, Devonte, and Major, and four sisters, Jada, Violet, ZuZu, Da'miyla. 

Coach Langel on Stevie: "Like many successful Colgate players before him, Stevie has already shown signs in his high school and AAU careers of being able to score when needed, but also impact winning on the offensive end with passing and ball handling. Like his new classmates, it is clear he is a student of the game in his pursuit of being the best player possible."

Before Colgate
Two-year captain at Mount Si High School playing for head coach Jason Griffith…helped lead his team to a Washington State championship in 2024 after averaging 14 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and two steals per game as a senior…garnered All-State First Team honors and was named Kingco Conference Defensive Player of the Year…two-time All-Kingco selection…shot 50 percent from the field during his four-year high school career, including a 40 percent clip from behind the arc…also played baseball in high school.

Personal
Born: Blake Steven Forrest in North Bend, Wash.
Family: Son of Chad and Jennifer…has one sister, Kendal. 

Coach Langel on Blake: "Blake is a dynamic athlete with speed, quickness, and strength. He can and has scored when his team needs it, but also understands the position of point guard and organizes and facilitates for his teammates to maximize efficiency, something that has been a mainstay of Colgate Basketball."
