Raiders Set for Battle with Black Knights
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The sixth-seeded women's tennis team will travel to Annapolis on Friday to kick off the first round of the Patriot League Playoff Tournament against the No. 3 Army Black Knights. The two squads have yet to meet in a duel this season, but Army touts a 10-35 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 1985.
"The ladies had another quality winning season highlighted by many quality 4-3 victories, including in league Bucknell and Lafayette," Head Coach Bobby Pennington said. "Tragically, we fell just short of our goal of the four seeds, but we have a young, fearless, resilient and talented group. They will need all of that and more against a loaded Army team who has won the league countless times."
Colgate enters the league tournament with an 18-24 record in the conference playoffs since 1995. The Raiders are searching for their first Patriot League playoff victory since a 4-0 thrashing of Holy Cross in 2018.
Pennington will look to his underclassmen to step up against the Black Knights, with six total first-years and sophomores contributing nearly 40 singles victories this season and a 47-45 record in doubles play.
First-year Carina Cristobal enters the postseason sporting an 8-10 overall record, but a 4-2 mark on courts one and two, while junior Addie Eklund and first-year Gigi Bohan boast double-digit wins. Bohan's 11-5 record serves as the best win percentage on the team.
It will take everything the Raiders have to beat a surging Black Knights squad that has won seven of their last nine duels of the regular season.
The duel will kick off on Friday, April 19, at 12:45 p.m. at Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium. Live stats can be accessed here, and the duel will be streamed at this link.
