HAMILTON – Colgate Football's Zack Pelland and Tyler Flick add to their list of postseason accolades with Academic All-League honors, announced Wednesday by the conference.

Pelland, a fifth-year senior, is a neuroscience major with a minor in writing and philosophy. The defensive lineman garnered All-Patriot League Second Team honors after posting 19 tackles, four TFLs, a sack and a game-winning blocked field goal in his final season for the Raiders.

Pelland's excellence in the classroom includes research on the effects of head impact on the gut. He is analyzing the gut microbiome, the community of microorganisms, or microbes, that live in the large intestine. The research could potentially change the way concussions are treated and diagnosed.

Flick, another All-Patriot League Second Team selection, is a political science major from Manheim, Pa. He led the team and ranked fifth in the Patriot League with 78 total tackles. That included 4.5 TFLs and a sack with three QB hurries, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

The fifth-year senior linebacker is a two-time All-Patriot League selection and was named a preseason all-league honoree this season. Flick posted three games with double-digit tackles, including a season-high 14 in Colgate's game at Syracuse (Sept. 2).
