Two Boats Compete in Finals for Men's Rowing
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Colgate men's rowing competed at the Novak Memorial Metropolitan Championships Saturday.
"We had a solid day of racing. The varsity eight continues to improve and the four had a solid row to comfortably win their race," said assistant coach Eric Summers.
HEATS
Colgate's varsity eight took the water first in the second heat of the men's varsity eight event. The crew took first in their heat with a time of 6:26.4, second overall to Marist's time of 6:21.4. The Raiders' top-six finish put them in the grand final, facing Union, Iona, and Fordham again, as well as meeting Marist and Vassar for the first time.
FINALS
Colgate's varsity eight earned second in its final, crossing the finish line at 6:27.61. The boat fell by five seconds to Marist's winning time of 6:22.3. The varsity eight finished three seconds ahead of Fordham, four ahead of Vassar, and 15 ahead of both Iona and Union.
The Raiders' second varsity four was a finals-only event. Colgate earned first in the final by clocking in at 7:39.5, defeating Marist, who crossed 23 seconds after at 8:02.7.
