Raiders Steady on Day 3 of Patriot Championships
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Six total program records were broken by the Colgate men's and women's swim on Day 3 of the Patriot League Championship at Navy's Lejeune Hall on Friday.
The women's team maintains seventh place with 411 points and the men hold ninth with 238.
WOMEN
Brooke Garretson secured 23 points for Colgate after qualifying for the A Final in the 200-yard freestyle. She turned in a time of 1:50.41 to place seventh overall, less than a half second behind the sixth-place swimmer from Navy.
Jordan Hurt and Natalie Hofer accounted for 20 points each in their respective events. Hurt was the top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly B Final (54.17), which was good for ninth overall. Hofer took the top spot in the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.23.
Regan Hau and Audrey Collins scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:05.45 and 55.62.
Ellie Sundin placed 11th in the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.95, accumulating 16 points for the Raiders. MG King took 12th place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:27.28, good for fourth place in the B Final.
Colgate's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lucy Art, Elizabeth Rainey, Hurt, and Garretson finished fourth for 52 points with a time of 1:32.51.
MEN
Ryan Jee was Colgate's highest score of the day, accumulating 14 points with a 13th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, good for fifth in the B Final, touching the wall in 48.37. Jee also competed in the C Final of the 100-yard breaststroke and finished 19th overall. Both marks were program records.
JD Suarez set a program and first-year record in the 100-yard backstroke with a 15th-place time of 49.92, placing him seventh in the B Final. Jack Schurtz-Ford competed in the same event and finished 18th overall with a time of 49.42 to place second in the C Final.
Matthew Szypula finished second in the C Final and 18th overall in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:01.33, two seconds faster than his preliminary mark.
Colgate's 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Drew Hicks, Jee, Scott Pejic, and Schurtz-Ford finished ninth (1:22.59) to total 40 points for the Raiders. Pejic's time of 48.61 in the 100 fly set a new program pace and earned him a 19th-place finish.
