Taylor Stepping Away as Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach
HAMILTON – After five years at the helm, Kathy Taylor has announced she is stepping down from her role as head coach of the Colgate women's lacrosse program.
Taylor came to Colgate in 2019 and helped guide the Raiders to three Patriot League tournament appearances, including a semifinal berth in 2021. She developed eight All-Patriot League honorees, a pair of Academic All-League selections, and numerous IWLCA academic recognitions. In 16 seasons as a head coach, Taylor's career record stands at 233-76 (.754).
"Although I currently have two years remaining on my contract, I feel now is the time for a change in the leadership of the women's lacrosse program," Taylor said. "Colgate University and the Athletics Department are in good hands. I am grateful for my time spent here. The team is in a great place to soar. The student-athletes are committed and hardworking, and they embody the oneness necessary to be successful. The culture is healthy with a positive mindset, and I look forward to watching this program chase championships in the future."
Taylor joined the Raiders after a five-year stint as the head coach at Le Moyne, where she led the Dolphins to the 2018 Division II National Championship. Prior to her time at Le Moyne, Taylor led SUNY Cortland to the NCAA tournament six times in as many years at the helm, including four national semifinal appearances.
A 2010 inductee into the Upstate New York Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Taylor served as the girl's lacrosse coach at nearby Fayetteville-Manlius high school from 1988 to 2006. She captured two New York State championships (Div. I in 2004 and Class A in 2005), five Section III titles, and was named the Central New York Coach of the Year twice.
A national search for the next head coach of the Colgate women's lacrosse program will begin immediately. Assistant Coach Katherine Sweeney will run day-to-day operations of the program during the transition period.
