HAMILTON — A complete-game gem from Maya Servedio and a four-run second inning gave Colgate its first Patriot League series win of the season with a 6-2 victory over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.

Servedio scattered seven hits over 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three to pick up her eighth complete game and sixth victory of the season. Mia Cascio belted her third home run of the season, while Analisa Raffaelli and Alexis Romero each had two hits to lead the offense.

COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS

"This was a huge confidence boost for Maya Servedio and our pitching staff. We set out a plan and she executed. I would like to see the number of walks decrease but her ability to compete when the pressure is on is what keeps us in games. Mia Cascio's home run really set the tone for a windy and cold Sunday. We didn't get the production I hoped for but we did enough to win the game. Now it's back to the grind this week to prepare for a tough Lehigh team."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colgate sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on three hits while taking advantage of three walks. Claire Whalen worked a two-out walk before Raffaelli cranked a two-run triple to right field. This came after Mackenzie Lewis scored Romero on a double to left field and a solo bomb to left field by Cascio to make it 4-0 Raiders.
  • After taking advantage of an error to extend the lead to 5-0, Lafayette answered with two runs in the top of the fourth. Quinn Livesay lofted a sacrifice fly in the home half of the fourth to stretch the lead to 6-2, which was plenty for Servedio.
  • Servedio worked around a baserunner in each of the last three innings, but pitched to contact inducing three groundballs in the seventh to seal the series victory, 6-2.
