Softball’s Comeback Falls Short to Lehigh, 6-5
HAMILTON — Colgate pounded out 11 hits with a pair of home runs, but its comeback attempt fell just short in a 6-5 loss to Lehigh in the first of a three-game softball series Saturday afternoon.
With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and moderate rain falling most of the afternoon, neither team's bats were affected. Colgate's 11 hits were its most in Patriot League play this season, while Lehigh finished with 13 hits with a pair of those going for extra bases.
COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS
"We did a great job executing offensively and sticking to our plan today despite tough weather conditions. We were swinging at pitches we wanted to swing at and I was proud of how we stayed within the zone. Hopefully we can carry some momentum into tomorrow and put it all together."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 6-3 at the start of the seventh, Mia Cascio hammered an opposite-field, pinch-hit RBI double to close within 6-4 and brought the winning run to the plate. Alexis Romero lofted a sacrifice fly to score Lily Haluska, but a groundout ended the game with the tying run at second.
- Lehigh scored the first five runs of the game to lead 5-0. Two home runs from the Raiders opened their scoring in the home half of the third. Analisa Raffaelli blasted a leadoff shot to center, followed by a two-run bomb from Quinn Livesay to cut the margin to 5-3.
- Alexa Acker relieved Maya Servedio and pitched 4.0 strong innings in the circle, conceding one earned run on seven hits. The run she gave up proved costly, as Lehigh added an insurance run to make it 6-3 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Holy Lovett.
- Jillian Herbst led the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
