Women’s Tennis Falls to Lehigh
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Lehigh on Sunday afternoon. Colgate took the doubles point, but Lehigh prevailed in four of the six singles matches to win the matchup. The loss moves the Raiders to 10-10 on the season.
The matchup began with doubles action, where the Raiders picked up a win at line one by sophomore Carina Cristobal and senior captain Eliza Podlas, who won 6-3. The Mountain Hawks quickly responded with a win at line two, but Colgate clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) win by senior captain Addie Eklund and first-year Rebecca Hess at line three to take the overall lead in the match.
Colgate came out strong in singles, as junior Amelia Galin picked up a commanding 6-1, 6-4 win at line one, and Hess won 6-2, 6-3 at line four. However, that would be all the matches the Raiders picked up, as Lehigh finished strong to win the last four contests, three of them in third sets. The deciding win came at line three for the Mountain Hawks over Eklund, who lost 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.
The Raiders return to action on Saturday, taking on conference foe Bucknell at 10 a.m at the J.W. Abrahamson tennis courts.
