Women’s Tennis Triumphs over Bucknell
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate women's tennis team returned to winning ways with a 4-3 victory over conference rival Bucknell. The Raiders won a tight doubles point courtesy of a 7-6 (7-4) clinch from the duo of sophomore Sophia Montero and junior Amelia Galin. They continued their momentum in singles action, where Galin, first-year Rebecca Hess, and senior captain Addie Eklund picked up the wins necessary for the 4-3 victory.
"After two absolutely heartbreaking 3-4 losses last weekend where we were short-handed and played so hard, we bounced back in a major way," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "These ladies play so hard for me and are so loyal and bought in. Bucknell is a huge rival, and for two straight years, we beat them straight up. Doubles set the tone, and Amelia continues to prove she's one of the best ones in the league. Rebecca is now 16-5, and Addie bounced back. Bring on Lafayette for senior day."
Eklund and Hess started the Raiders off strong in doubles action, winning at line three, 6-0. The Raiders fell at line two, but the Galin Montero duo clinched the point for Colgate with their tiebreaker win.
Singles action began with an Eklund win at line five, taking the matchup 6-2, 6-1. The Bison pulled one back at line three with a win over first-year Anya Kunar. However, it would be all Raiders from there, as Galin won 6-3, 6-2 at line one, and Hess clinched 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to give Colgate a crucial league victory.
The Raiders return to action Sunday, taking on Lafayette at 5 p.m. at Drumlins for Senior Day, where the team will honor Addie Eklund and Eliza Podlas.
