Raiders Sweep Leopards
SYRACUSE — The Colgate women's tennis team defeated Lafayette 4-0 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 12-10 on the season.
"Today was a great way for our seniors Addie and Eliza to finish their careers as they won in singles and doubles in a 4-0 victory over a tough Lafayette team" said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "The ladies clinched our fifth straight winning season with 12 total wins. It made a big difference having a full healthy lineup. I firmly believe we are the fourth best team in our conference, no question when healthy. Next up hosting our league tourney."
The Raiders started off strong in doubles, with first-year Rebecca Hess and senior captain Addie Eklund winning 6-2 at line three. Colgate sealed the point with a 6-2 win by senior captain Eliza Podlas and sophomore Carina Cristobal.
Action resumed with singles, with Podlas immediately adding on to the lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win at line six. Sophomore Sophia Montero added on a 6-4, 6-3 win, and Eklund fittingly clinched the match for the Raiders with a 6-3, 6-0 win at line five.
Colgate returns to action on April 25, hosting the Patriot League tournament at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts in Hamilton.
