Women’s Tennis Falls to Loyola
Box Score SYRACUSE — Colgate women's tennis dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Loyola on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Raiders to 10-9 on the season.
"An absolutely brutal, gutting loss for the ladies today. Anytime you play without your two singles and one doubles teams it will be tough. We had match points to win the doubles and that was the difference. Credit to Galin, Podlas, and Hess winning in singles. We have to quickly regroup for Lehigh tomorrow," said head coach Bobby Pennington.
The Raiders started strong in doubles, with senior captain Addie Eklund and first-year Rebecca Hess winning 6-2. The Greyhounds responded with a win on court two, and the point came down to line one in a breaker, where, unfortunately, the Raiders fell.
Singles action followed, where the Greyhounds added on to their lead with a win at line three. However, the Raiders quickly responded, with senior captain Eliza Podlas winning 6-3, 6-2 at line six. Junior Amelia Galin leveled the matchup with a 6-2, 6-4 win at line one. However, Loyola responded with a win on court two to take a commanding 3-2 lead. Hess swung momentum back in favor of Colgate with a 6-2, 6-4 win at line five, but the Greyhounds were able to clinch with a win at line four over Eklund.
