Raiders' Varsity Eight Finishes IRAs Strong
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Raiders ended the IRA National Championship Regatta strong, with their varsity eight boat taking second in the fourth level final Sunday.
DAY 3 RECAP
Colgate came in at 5:54.704, marking its best time of the weekend in its final race of the three-day regatta. The result helped the Raiders place 20th overall for the second-straight year.
The boat finished just .76 seconds behind UC San Diego, who won the final at 5:53.994. The Raiders pushed hard to the finish line, outlasting Georgetown by three seconds after the crews were neck-and-neck for much of the race. Oregon State was next to finish with a time of 6:00.806.
Colgate also defeated Santa Clara by nine seconds and MIT by 11 seconds.
DAY 2 RECAP
Colgate's varsity four competed in the third level final Saturday morning and posted a time of 7:27.215, good for sixth place in the race and 18th overall. The crew finished seven seconds behind the next boat from Drexel.
The varsity eight raced in semifinal three, earning a fifth-place result. The Raiders logged a time of 6:33.694, which beat out the next boat from Oregon State by six seconds. Colgate finished within two seconds of Georgetown and six seconds behind the following two crews from Drexel and Columbia.
DAY 1 RECAP
Friday began with the varsity eight heat race in the morning. The Raiders notched a fifth-place finish with a time of 5:56.098, beating out Oregon State by four seconds.
Colgate came in less than 10 seconds behind boats from Georgetown and Penn. Washington won the heat, followed by Syracuse.
In the afternoon repechage, the Raiders placed third after crossing the finish line at the 6:05.741 mark. The crew finished six seconds behind the winning boat from Cornell, two seconds behind second-place Wisconsin, and three seconds ahead of Columbia.
The varsity four posted the 13th fastest time in the time trial, clocking in at 6:30.362 and beating out boats from Syracuse, Oklahoma City, Boston University, and Princeton by less than a second. Colgate also came in less than a second behind Stetson and Jacksonville.
