Golf Finishes Second at Patriot Championship
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Backed by top 10 finishes from Dugan McCabe and Robbie Herzig, Colgate fired a 290 as a team on Sunday, the best single-round by any team all weekend, to finish second at the Patriot League Championship for the second consecutive year.
Forty-eight golfers across the eight Patriot League institutions competed in the three-day championship at Saucon Valley Country Club's par 72, 7,901-yard Grace Course. "I'm proud of our group for finishing the Patriot League Championship with our lowest round of the weekend," said head coach JP Kircher. "It was great to see so many guys battling out there, and to go from fifth to second on the final day is impressive. Dugan and Robbie set the tone for us all weekend. Kevin made great strides throughout the weekend as well. We'll continue to build on this performance."
The Raiders moved from seventh to sixth on Saturday, and then made their best run of the weekend to soar into a second-place finish for the second consecutive season. Colgate finished with a three-day score of 894 (+30), 13 strokes behind Loyola for the title.
Colgate was led by McCabe, who finished fourth with a three-day total of 73-76-71=220 (+4). His 1-under 71 on Sunday was tied for the best score in the field. After posting one birdie on Saturday, McCabe buried four on Sunday, including hole No. 15 for the third straight day.
Herzig was hovering around the top five all weekend and finished tied for fifth with a score of 225 (+5) over the three-day tournament. He shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday to land a top 10 finish in the Patriot League Championship for the second consecutive season.
Kevin Hollomon soared to a tie for 13th-place finish at 224 (+8). He improved his score each round, capped off by an even-par 72 on Sunday to secure a top 20 finish in his first Patriot League Championship appearance.
Leo Li was Colgate's biggest mover on Sunday, jumping eight spots to finish tied for 24th (+14). The first-year carded a 2-over 74 in the final round to finish with a three-day total of 230.
