Adeduntan Adds Whitney to Coaching Staff
HAMILTON – Head women's basketball coach Ganiyat Adeduntan announced the addition of Jasmine Whitney as the Director of Basketball Operations to her coaching staff on Monday afternoon.
"I am excited to add Jasmine Whitney to our staff, who I had the pleasure of coaching at George Washington University," Adeduntan said. "She was a player that I truly enjoyed coaching because she was a great teammate and competitor."
Whitney most recently served as an independent basketball trainer for high school girls in the Fairfax, Va., area. While being an independent trainer, Whitney conducted various levels of intense individual basketball training that improved her players' performances. Her work also improved the conditioning and skill levels of the athletes she worked with.
"I'm extremely excited to join the Colgate staff and women's basketball program," Whitney expressed. "Coach G is a great leader, and I cannot wait to get acclimated to the Colgate community. I have been awarded a wonderful opportunity to work with amazing people, and I am very grateful for it!"
Before her work as an individual trainer, Whitney spent time with the Fairfax County government as a recruit firefighter (Oct. 2022-Feb. 2023) and a relief counselor (Oct. 2021-Oct. 2022).
Whitney started her coaching career as the junior varsity head basketball coach and varsity assistant coach at Freedom High School in South Riding, Va., for the 2021-22 season. During her time at Freedom, Whitney led her team to an undefeated season while mentoring her players on and off the court during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"What I admired and loved the most about Jasmine was her consistency, but she is also extremely selfless, driven, and has a strong work ethic," Adeduntan added. "All traits I believe will transfer well into her new position. She and I are very aligned in our values, along with similarities in how we work and approach things. I am confident that Jasmine will be a great role model and mentor to our scholar-athletes."
A three-year member of the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team and sophomore captain, Whitney received her Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Justice from Pitt in 2019. Whitney had a decorated career with the Panthers, ranking amongst the top 10 in program history with 162 steals. She was also the only active player in the ACC in 2019 to record more than 100 assists in three consecutive seasons.
Whitney completed her schooling and collegiate career at George Washington while Adeduntan served as an assistant coach with the Colonials. During her time at George Washington, Whitney started at point guard and was a team captain while garnering a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Defense Team. She received a Master of Arts in Criminology from George Washington in 2022.
