BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Patriot League announced its weekly awards Monday, with two Colgate men's soccer players earning honors following the Raiders' 2-1 win over Lafayette in its conference opener last Saturday.
Senior Jacob Blackwin was named Defensive Player of the Week, and first-year Blake Pipkin earned Rookie of the Week.
Blackwin notched the game-winning goal in the 71st minute, putting Colgate up 2-1. He placed a header into the bottom right corner for the first goal of his career.
Blackwin also helped lead the Raiders' backline in holding the Leopards scoreless in the second half. It marks the second time this season that Blackwin has earned Defensive Player of the Week after picking up the honor Aug. 26.
Pipkin notched two points with a goal and an assist, earning his first weekly award from the conference. He played a corner perfectly to the head of Blackwin for the game-winner. The helper came eight minutes after Pipkin tied the game at 1-1 with his first career goal. He received a pass in the box and buried a shot right in front.
The Raiders are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Princeton for a 7 p.m. game.
