Colgate Loses in Boston, 13-10
BOSTON - Kyra Lucey's hat trick wasn't enough in Boston as the Raiders fell in a tight game to Boston University on Wednesday, 13-10.
COACH TAYLOR'S COMMENTS
"We had a great rally today to stay in the game after a poor third quarter performance, but unfortunately we could not close out the game. As I often tell our team no one mistake causes the loss but just too many today to overcome in the end. We have two challenging games left and senior day this Saturday where we will honor Kyra Lucey and Helena Morrison."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston got on the board first before Lauren Thompson found Caroline Panzirer to tie the game up early in the first frame. Thompson extended her goal streak to seven games with a goal with 6:34 left in the first quarter but the Raiders trailed 3-2 after one.
Colgate was held scoreless until 4:53 left in the half when the Raiders went on a scoring frenzy. Gracie DeSimone netted her fifth of the season before Devon Maillet buried a Panzirer dish just 50 seconds later. The Raiders knotted the game at five with a Lucy Licata goal with just over three minutes remaining in the half.
Boston was able to score just before the break and the Raiders remained a goal behind at halftime.
The Terriers began the third frame with three straight goals pushing their lead to 9-5. Maillet took advantage of a free position opportunity to cut into the Boston lead to 10-6. Kait Henning found Kyra Lucey who used a skillful ability to stretch at full length and fire home with 5:49 left in the third quarter. The Raiders trailed 10-7 with one quarter remaining.
Colgate came alive scoring three goals in two minutes starting with a Lucey goal with 11:20 left in the game. Licata buried her second of the day before Lucey completed her hat trick tying the game back up at 10 with 9:28 remaining.
That would be the end of the Raiders scoring for the day as the Terriers finished on a 3-0 scoring run and defeated Colgate 13-10.
Lauren Solis played all 60 minutes in the cage making nine saves.
