Raiders Bested by Mountain Hawks

BETHLEHEM, Pa.  — Junior wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders broke the program single-season reception record with his 78th catch of the campaign, but it was not enough in Colgate's 45-17 loss to Lehigh on Saturday afternoon in Goodman Stadium.

Elsewhere on offense, sophomore quarterback Jake Stearney completed a career-high 33 passes, including eight to both junior wide receiver Brady Hutchison and sophomore wideout Reed Swanson. The eight grabs mark personal bests for both pass catchers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lehigh struck first, scoring seven on the game's opening drive in just four plays.
  • Led by two catches on the following series from Swanson, including one on a fourth and seven, the Raiders chipped away at the deficit with a 25-yard Luke Vogeler field goal.
  • Unable to get things going on the ground, Colgate could not sustain drives on offense and went just one of six on third down conversions in the first half.
  • The Mountain Hawks took advantage, punching in another score and taking a 17-3 lead into the break.
  • Lehigh took command of the contest with a 14-point third quarter where the Raiders were gashed for 111 yards on the ground.
  • Colgate struck first in the fourth, cutting into the deficit with a 33-yard connection from Stearney to Saunders.
  • A 51-yard touchdown run on the ensuing Lehigh drive reasserted a four-score lead, but fifth-year senior tight end William Parker responded quickly with his second-career TD reception from eight yards out.
  • That was as close as the Raiders would get, however, as another Mountain Hawk rushing touchdown with just over a minute remaining cemented the 45-17 loss.

GAME NOTES

  • Sophomore kicker Luke Vogeler is now 11-13 on field goals this season, the most made kicks in the Patriot League and the best field goal percentage among all kickers in the conference.
  • Stearney set new season-highs with 263 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also completed a season-best 78.6% of his passes, the second-best mark of his career. His 33 completions are the second-most in a game ever by a Raider, one behind Dave Goodwin '90 who completed 34 passes against Holy Cross on Nov. 17, 1990.
  • Junior defensive lineman Dane Picariello earned a sack for the second-straight game.
