HAMILTON — Colgate dropped a 3-2 double overtime decision against St. Lawrence in Game 1 of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals Friday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

"It was a disappointing finish for us. We will regroup and do our best to push it to a three-game series," said head coach Mike Harder.

Luc Salem netted the winner just under seven and a half minutes into the second extra period off of a pass from Josh Boyer.

The first overtime session saw the Raiders hold a 12-7 advantage in shots. Colgate generated several good looks, but could not quite put one in. The Raiders finished the game with a 49-33 lead in shots. Carter Gylander made seven stops in the period to prevent the Saints from getting a winner.

Alex DiPaolo knotted the score at 2-2 with just under six minutes remaining in the third. Tommy Bergsland tapped the puck to Brett Chorske as he was falling. Chorske then played it across the ice to DiPaolo for a one-timer he fired home.

Bergsland had cut the deficit to one just under four minutes into the final period, ripping one in on a power play off a pass from Simon Labelle. Colgate held the Saints to three shots in the third while recording nine of their own.

SLU scored two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead in the second. Jan Lasak found the back of the net eight and a half minutes in, and Josh Boyer followed 30 seconds later to double the visitors' lead.

Neither side scored in the first, but the Raiders dominated the period, outshooting SLU 17-2. The two shots against were tied for the fewest Colgate has allowed in a period this season.

The Raiders had two power play chances in the contest, one in the first and the other in the third, but they could not convert on either.

Gylander totaled 30 saves in goal for Colgate, while Ben Kraws stopped 47 shots for the Saints, picking up the victory.
