ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Colgate defeated RIT 5-4 in a back-and-forth battle Friday evening.COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"It was a really solid effort from the whole group tonight, and it took every single guy in our locker room, including both goalies."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ben Raymond notched the game-winning goal just under six minutes into the second. Jack Brandt picked up a loose puck along the boards and passed to Brett Merner, who turned in the left faceoff circle before dishing it to Raymond for a shot he slotted in.
- Alex DiPaolo had tied the game at 4-4 a minute and a half before. Tommy Bergsland passed to Max Nagel, who fired a shot that DiPaolo tipped in.
- Colgate's two goals followed after two straight from the Tigers from Adam Jeffery and Simon Isabelle, giving the home side a 4-3 advantage.
- Earlier in the second, the Raiders pulled ahead 3-2 with a tally from Brett Chorske off passes from DiPaolo and Nagel.
- Colgate had put in two straight at the end of the first to draw even at 2-2. Nic Belpedio provided the equalizer, receiving a pass from Ryan Sullivan after a DiPaolo faceoff win.
- Nagel made it 2-1 with his first career goal, stealing the puck, getting free, then sniping a shot into the top left corner.
- The Tigers took a 2-0 lead after scoring two quick goals in the first period. Tanner Andrew found the back of the net seven and a half minutes in, and Evan Miller followed 1:21 later.
BEN RAYMOND ON HIS GOAL
"JB was able to win a battle on the wall and make a great pass to Merns. I saw the ice in front of me open up and tried to put myself in a good position for Merns to hit me in front of the net. When I got it, I saw the goalie cheating short side, so I put it far side. It felt great to get the boys the lead, and everyone battled hard the rest of the game to keep it."
GAME NOTES
- Nick Haas picked up his first career win in goal, making 11 saves in the first two periods. Andrew Takacs relieved him in the third, stopping nine shots to secure the win for the Raiders.
- DiPaolo and Nagel both recorded three points with a goal and two assists.
- Colgate outshot RIT 38-24, recording a season-high in shots.
- Chorske went 14-of-25 from the faceoff circle.
