Men's Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision at UMass Lowell

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Daniel Panetta put the Raiders up 1-0 with 14 minutes left in the second off of two perfectly played passes. Antonio Fernandez played the first one 100 feet down the ice, right to Simon Labelle's stick. The junior then found his classmate cutting toward the goal, hitting him for a shot he slotted in.
- The River Hawks knotted the score at 1-1 two minutes later when Scout Truman found the back of the net.
- Colgate went down a man for five minutes after getting called for a major with 2:07 left in the middle frame. The Raiders had two shorthanded chances, one at the end of the second and one at the start of the third, with Robby Newton and Panetta getting denied by the goaltender.
- UML then found the back of the net on the man-up a minute and 50 seconds into the third with a tally from Owen Cole.
- The Raiders pulled their goalie for the final minute of regulation but could not find an equalizer.
- Colgate had a power play chance in the third. Brett Chorske had the best opportunity on the man-up when he redirected a shot by Reid Irwin that the UML goalie just closed his legs on to prevent it from going five hole.
- The Raiders fired 11 shots in the second, including a flurry of five shots in a minute and a half around the mid-way point of the period, four of which got saved.
- Neither side was able to put one in during the opening 20 minutes. Nick Haas made eight saves in the period.
GAME NOTES
- Panetta scored his third goal of the season, tying him for the team lead with Fernandez.
- With his helper on Panetta's goal, Fernandez now sits second on the squad in points (five).
- Haas finished with 28 saves in the game. Twenty of those stops occurred in the final two periods.
- Alex DiPaolo went 12-for-19 (.632) from the faceoff circle.
UP NEXT
The Raiders are back on the road next weekend, staying in New York for a trip to RIT. Colgate will battle the Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
