Gylander Signs With Detroit Red Wings
HAMILTON — Colgate senior goaltender Carter Gylander signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday.
Gylander, who got chosen by Detroit in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Entry Level Draft, will begin his deal with the team's AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, at the start of the 2024-25 season.
The netminder finished his time as a Raider with a .907 career save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average. Gylander made 2,757 saves in 106 career games, finishing fourth in program history in both categories. He also placed seventh in career wins (46) and sixth in goals-against average.
This season, Gylander logged 871 saves, second-most in ECAC Hockey, and averaged 27.22 stops per game, falling third-best in the league. He posted a 2.93 GAA and a .901 save percentage. Additionally, Gylander was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week twice.
The Beaumont, Alberta native was instrumental in the Raiders' 2023 ECAC Championship. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC Hockey playoffs after stopping 40 shots in the semifinals and 34 in the championship.
Gylander broke the program record for most saves in the season as a junior, tallying 1,044. That same year, he registered the second-most minutes played in a season at 2,385.
During his sophomore year, Gylander posted a 2.77 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He played in 19 games as a first-year, stopping 428 shots and recording a 2.70 GAA.
