Drouin, Connor, and LaCombe Pick Up PL Weekly Awards
BETHLEHEM, Pa.— Colgate took home three Patriot League men's lacrosse weekly awards on Monday following a 14-11 win over No. 5 Army last Saturday.
Hunter Drouin earned Offensive Player of the Week, Liam Connor was named Rookie of the Week, and Matt LaCombe picked up Goalkeeper of the Week.
Drouin Logged a career-best six points, tying his season high with four goals and notching two assists. Two of his goals came during a 6-0 Raider run in the third quarter that helped them gain their largest lead at 14-8. He also provided an assist on the third goal of the streak. The sophomore now has six games with three or more goals and three contests with four or more.
Connor picked up rookie honors for the second time after tying his season-high with three points behind two goals and an assist. It marked his sixth multi-point game thus far. The first-year found the back of the net during a 3-0 run in the second quarter that gave Colgate a three-goal cushion. He also assisted on two of his brother Rory's goals, including the final one of the 6-0 run.
LaCombe had another standout game, making 18 saves and logging a .621 save percentage while holding Army to 11 goals, its second fewest this season. The junior stopped seven shots in the fourth quarter, five of which came in the final four and a half minutes to halt a Black Knight comeback effort. LaCombe also made eight first-half saves, including five in the opening quarter. This is the second time he has earned a weekly honor from the league this season.
The Raiders are back home Saturday, hosting Lehigh for senior day at 4 p.m. Colgate is ranked No. 17 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and No. 18 in the USILA Coaches Poll this week.
