Men's Rowing Competes at Head of the Schuylkill
PHILADELPHIA — Men's rowing competed in its second race of the fall season Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill.
The day was highlighted by a fourth-place finish by the varsity eight in the championship eights event. Colgate crossed the finish line in 11:08.630, beating out boats from Drexel, Navy, and Penn by over two seconds. The Raiders also came in just three seconds behind the next boat from LaSalle and within ten seconds of the following two crews.
"The varsity eight, in the championship eight event, had a very nice row today. They looked sharp on the water and were able to pick up speed from last weekend," said assistant coach Eric Summers.
The novice collegiate fours crossed the finish line sixth out of 21 boats, logging a time of 15:08.265. The crew came in 14 seconds ahead of the next one from Army. The Raiders trailed Villanova, La Salle, Temple, Marietta, and the winner, Penn.
In the men's club championship eights race, Colgate posted a time of 12:54.914, good for 29th place. The Raiders defeated boats from St. Mary's, Army, and Pittsburgh by less than four seconds. Colgate also placed within ten seconds of crews from Lafayette, George Washington, and Delaware.
