Swim & Dive Celebrates Senior Day

HAMILTON – The Colgate men's and women's swimming and diving teams celebrated their 10 seniors in a dual meet against Boston University on Saturday afternoon inside Lineberry Natatorium. The men's team fell 204-73 while the women's team suffered a 213-81 setback.

Women | Boston University 213, Colgate 81

MG King and Lucy Art picked up wins for the women's team. King secured first place in the 500-yard free, clocking in at 5:11.69. They bested Boston U's second-place swimmer Lara Mitchell by nearly six full seconds. Addisyn Donfris took third place (5:21.46). 

Art's first-place finish came in the 50-yard free after touching the wall in 24.68 seconds, edging out BU's Stella Langenbach's time of 25.00 seconds. Brooke Garretson (25.47) and Elizabeth Rainey (25.53) captured fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively. 

Ellie Sundin provided another highlight on the women's side, rebreaking her first-year record on the 1-meter dive with a score of 270.75 – good enough to qualify for the Zone diving meet in Princeton, New Jersey, on March 11. 

Jordan Hurt claimed a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200-yard fly (2:09.94) and 100-yard free (54.51), just off the leader's times of 2:09.80 and 54.06, respectively. Audrey Collins also earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:00.64. 

The women's 400-yard free relay team of Rainey, Hurt, Garretson, and Art brought home another second-place time of 3:37.12, just behind Boston U's winning quartet time of 3:35.00.

Men | Boston University 204, Colgate 73

Colgate saw plenty of top three finishes on the men's side Saturday afternoon. Tyler Bosma, Drew Hicks, and Cooper Luedde finished consecutively in second, third, and fourth in the 50-yard free with respective times of 22.28, 22.30, and 22.42 seconds. 

Luedde and Jack Lira took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard free with respective times of 1:47.18 and 1:47.18.

Tim Brooks highlighted Colgate's finish in the 100-yard free, clocking in at 48.84 seconds, good for second place and just behind Boston U's first-place time of 47.55 seconds. Jack Schurtz-Ford captured second place in the 200-yard back (1:56.04). 

Colgate's 200-yard medley relay team of JD Suarez, Ryan Jee, Scott Pejic, and Schurtz-Ford finished with a second-place time of 1:35.75, just behind Boston U's winning time of 1:35.19. 

In the final event of the afternoon, Colgate's 200-yard medley relay team led by Lira, Brooks, Pejic, and Schurtz-Ford earned a second-place finish with a time of 3:13.55.

Colgate wraps up the regular season with the Boston University Winter Open Feb. 9-10 before taking on the Patriot League Championships Feb. 21-24 in Annapolis, Md.
