Raiders Sweep Boston University
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate men's tennis team took the doubles point from the Terriers, then never looked back in sweeping the overall match with singles play.
"Men shut out the defending league champions 4-0," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "Per usual, we were lights out in doubles, and Lochlan continued his dominance at two. Josh and Jerome closed it out swiftly. I honestly don't know many teams in any sport or any division that have had the 180 turnaround this ballclub has had at 11-8 this year from where we were a year ago. We have major unfinished business against Lafayette tomorrow to send our four seniors out properly."
The action began with doubles, where the Raiders picked up a default win at line three. The sophomore duo of Parker McGowan and Jerome Falcon clinched the point for the squad with a 6-2 victory at line two. Junior Aidan Chung and first-year Tim Viding were up 5-3 when play got called.
The Raiders continued their momentum in singles action, with first year Lochlan Seth winning 6-1, 6-1 at line two. The Raiders clinched the match when senior captain Josh Israel won 6-1, 6-1 at line four. The Terriers defaulted line six, providing the squad with the four points they needed for the win. When play got called, senior captain Benito Vlassis was down 5-7, 1-1 at line one, junior Aidan Lee lost the first 6-7 (5-7) but was up 2-0 in the second, and Falcon was up 6-2, 5-2, 40-30 at line five.
The Raiders return to action on Sunday, taking on Lafayette at Drumlins at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. The team will honor Benito Vlassis, Ben Graham, Josh Israel, and Mikey Weitz.
