Adeduntan Named Head Coach at George Washington

HAMILTON – Ganiyat Adeduntan has stepped down as Colgate University's head women's basketball coach to take the same position at George Washington, announced Thursday.

HAMILTON – Ganiyat Adeduntan has stepped down as Colgate University's head women's basketball coach to take the same position at George Washington, announced Thursday.

Adeduntan guided Colgate to historic success during her four seasons at the helm, which coincides with the winningest four years in the program's history and back-to-back 20-win campaigns in 2023-24 and 2024-25. The Raiders, in the midst of postseason play, broke the record for the most single-season wins in program history (23) with their last victory.

"Colgate wishes Coach G all the best as she embarks on the next chapter of her career," said Yariv Amir '01, Colgate University Vice President and Director of Athletics. "Coach G's vision and leadership transformed our program over the last four years into one of the best in the Patriot League. The winningest four-year period in program history speaks for itself. Colgate women's basketball is in a better place because of Coach G and we are thankful for the time and energy spent by her and her staff."

In 2023-24, the Raiders finished 20-14 overall to capture their first 20-win season since 2004. Colgate finished second in the Patriot League standings – its highest finish in more than two decades – and advanced to the tournament semifinals for the first time since 2013.

In her second season at the helm, Adeduntan orchestrated one of the greatest single-season improvements in program history. Colgate increased its win total by 10 games in 2022-23, finishing 16-14 overall and 10-8 in Patriot League play to secure the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League tournament. The only Colgate women's basketball team to have a better single-season turnaround was the 2003-04 championship squad that finished 21-10.

"This is a bittersweet moment for me," Adeduntan said. "I've truly enjoyed my time at Colgate serving all of the players that I got the opportunity to coach. I love and will miss this team; a team that showed up, was committed to excellence and made both me and the Colgate community proud. I am grateful to President Casey and Yariv Amir for all of the support they gave me and our program. Colgate is a special place with special people, which is what made being able to do what we've done here possible.

"The 20+ win seasons were remarkable for us, but it was all the memories that we created that I'll forever remember. Most importantly, I feel great and grateful about accomplishing one of the goals I committed to four years ago when I first arrived at Colgate: make Colgate Women's Basketball something that all the alums, entire Colgate community, family and friends can be proud of."

Assistant coach Macey Hollenshead will serve as the program's Interim Head Coach and lead the program during the WNIT beginning with Saturday's game against Coppin State. A national search for the next leader of the women's basketball program begins immediately.
