BURLINGTON, Vt. – Colgate fell in the Super 16 of the WNIT to Vermont 65-55 on Friday night in Patrick Gymnasium.

Tiasia McMillan and Madison Schiller each dropped 12 points. Alexa Brodie added 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists in final career game.

The Raiders finished the season with 20 wins, the most since the 2003/2004 season. 

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"Our goal in the postseason was to play Colgate women's basketball and feel really good about who we had become. I feel really good about who this program has become and I couldn't be prouder of our two seniors, our captains, who led the way throughout. Even through moments of adversity this year, they stayed believing, they stayed positive, they stayed fighting, and that's what you saw in this game tonight against a really good team. We came in here expecting to still come out and be victorious but unfortunately we weren't able to play a full 40 minutes. A lot for us to take from this postseason run, a lot that we can move forward and use in the future but couldn't be prouder of our team, our toughness and our resiliency."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Raiders started the game of fire on a 6-0 run, Brodie hit a tough layup sandwiched between two McMillan buckets. Golembiewski got in on the action extending the lead to 10-2 forcing a Vermont timeout. 

Vermont scored five straight out of the timeout before Brodie drilled a jumper. Schiller and McMillan each scored another layup before the end of the first quarter and the Raiders took a 16-11 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter would end up being the worst shooting quarter of the season for the Raiders. Colgate made one field goal and two free throws. Vermont was able to hold the Raiders scoreless for the final 7:37 of the half finishing on a 12-0 run and taking a 27-20 lead into the break.

Colgate cut the deficit to six with 7:04 left in the third quarter thanks to a Schiller triple but Vermont was able to respond with a three of its own just a minute later. The two teams continued to trade blows before Schiller hit her second 3-pointer of the quarter and the Raiders trailed 40-34 with 3:29 left in the third. Vermont remained in front 46-37 heading into the final frame.

Sophia Diehl started the quarter with a deep three and the Raiders trailed again by just six but the Catamounts continued to respond, hitting a triple of their own and the Raiders trailed 49-40. Diehl was able to hit another clutch three before McMillan drove to the basket, pump-faked, and finished bringing Colgate to within four. However, that's the closest they got, falling 65-55 in the WNIT Super 16.

The Raiders shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the floor and 50 percent (4-for-8) from distance.
