#3 Raiders Fall to #2 Badgers in Frozen Four

DURHAM, N.H. – The third-ranked Colgate Raiders had their season ended by the second-ranked Wisconsin Badgers with a 3-1 loss in the NCAA Semifinals. A stout defensive effort was headlined by Kayle Osborne's 18 saves and eight different Raiders that logged a blocked shot to help slow the Badger's top-ranked offensive unit to only two even-strength goals, over three tallies below their 5.18 goals per game average.

Colgate outshot the Badgers 7-4 through 20 minutes in addition to killing two penalties where Wisconsin only mustered a pair of shots on goal.

However, the nation's points leader Kirsten Simms popped free at the 11-minute mark, slotting the game's first goal to send Colgate into the first intermission down one.

Colgate killed its third penalty of the game to open the second stanza, which led to a Tessa Holk breakaway down the right side where her five-hole shot attempt was saved.

The Badgers were called for hooking at the 11:23 mark which was immediately followed by a forecheck on a lengthy delayed call. The pair of penalties culminated in two minutes of 5-3 action for the Raiders, but Wisconsin netminder Ava McNaughton made two saves at point-blank range to keep Colgate off the board.

A streaking Allyson Simpson was fed a beautiful pass from Elyssa Biederman with time winding down in the middle period, but her would-be equalizer went just wide.

A trio of scoring chances from Holk, Simpson, and Kaltounková were deterred by McNaughton. Still, the Raiders drew their fourth power-play opportunity of the night with just over 13 minutes remaining.

Colgate came up just short on the game's eighth advantaged situation, which led to the dagger from the Badgers with 8:31 left on the clock.

Kaltounková kept the fans in their seats when she potted her 27th goal of the season, but an empty-netter from Wisconsin ended the 2023-24 Colgate women's hockey season one game short of the National Championship.
