Raiders Drop Close Game to Bucknell, 15-13
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lauren Thompson continued her hot streak of goals but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell narrowly to Bucknell, 15-13 in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday afternoon.
COACH TAYLOR'S COMMENTS
"It was another great lacrosse game where our team battled hard but fell short in the end. It truly has been the story of our season. Moments of high level play are a staple in most every contest, but our ability to close out wins has not. I thought we had today's game late into the contest but some tough calls and unforced errors kept a win out of reach. I am proud of this team's ability to handle adversity but will continue to work tirelessly to figure out how to get us on a more successful track."
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 1-0 in the opening minute, Lauren Thompson scored two quick goals just two minutes apart to put Colgate ahead 2-1. Lucy Licata was able to convert two chances midway through the first frame to push the Raiders edge up to 4-1 with 7:37 left in the first.
After Bucknell was able to get one back, Thompson completed her first quarter hat trick to give Colgate a 5-2 advantage after one quarter.
Devon Maillet scored her 10th goal of the season with 10:10 to play in the first half, to give the Raiders a 6-3 lead. Bucknell went on a three-goal run to tie the game up at six goals apiece with 7:08 remaining.
Licata buried her 21st goal of the season off a Kyra Lucey assist before Thompson converted a free-position shot to score her fourth goal of the first half and the Raiders took back an 8-6 lead. Bucknell answered, cutting the lead to one but Maillet fired home just before the halftime buzzer and Colgate took a 9-7 lead into the break.
Bucknell was able to respond yet again coming out of halftime but Kait Henning scored two goals in quick succession to push the Raider edge up to 11-8. Bucknell finished the third quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 12-11 lead into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair with Ella Bishara netting her sixth goal of the year to tie the game back up. After another Bucknell response, Caroline Panzirer scored the tying goal with 8:40 to play. Unfortunately, that would be the last goal the Raiders could convert on as Colgate fell 15-13 to Bucknell.
Lauren Solis played all 60 minutes in goal making nine saves.
