Raiders Drop Patriot League Game to Navy, 19-7
HAMILTON - Lucy Licata scored a hat trick and Kyra Lucey connected on three assists but the Raiders were unable to stop a talented Navy offense as Colgate dropped its second Patriot League game falling to the Midshipmen, 19-7 Saturday afternoon at Andy Kerr stadium.
COACH TAYLOR'S COMMENTS
"Lauren Solis played outstanding in goal and gave us a chance to compete with a talented Navy team. We played too much defense and when you play too much defense in lacrosse it is difficult to keep the ball out of the net. We struggled in the offensive end and the draw circle but we will continue to grow and learn. Its my responsibility to figure out how to turn these games around and I am going to work hard to find solutions ahead of another Patriot League matchup next week against American. "
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Navy started the game on a 4-0 run, Colgate called a timeout to regroup. Out of the timeout the Raiders were able to capitalize on a free-position shot by Gracie DeSimone before Lucey found Licata to cut the deficit to 4-2. Navy was able to score one more before the horn and Colgate trailed 5-2 after one quarter.
Devon Maillet scored her sixth goal of the season to begin the second frame on a free-position shot. Navy scored four more unanswered pushing its lead to 9-3. Licata and Lucey connected again with 12 ticks left in the half, cutting the Mids lead to 9-4 at half.
Licata and Lucey did it again in the middle of the third quarter completing a Licata hat trick and a Lucey hat trick of assists but Navy scored four third quarter goals of their own and the Raiders were down 13-5 after three quarters.
Lauren Thompson scored her third goal of the season and Grace DelNegro ripped the back of the net with 3:13 left in the game but it wasn't enough as Navy was able to defeat the Raiders, 19-7.
Lauren Solis played all 60 minutes in between the pipes making 14 saves.
