Women’s Rowing Finishes Strong at Eastern Sprints
WORCESTER, Mass. – Colgate's varsity four claimed a third-place finish in the third-level final to highlight the Raiders' four boats that competed in Sunday's Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond. Colgate's 1V4+ claimed fifth place in its heat with a time of 8:20.703, besting Marist's crew by nearly 15 full seconds. Landing in the third-level final, the Raiders once again bested Marist's varsity four by six seconds to secure a third-place finish in the final with a time of 8:57.434."The opportunity to row at Sprints is to see the top programs and the speed of women's collegiate rowing," said head coach Jim Lister. "It was inspiring for us to see the speed and how much the sport has evolved. In lieu of that, our results aren't indicative of the preparation and effort put forth by all of our rowers today. "This opportunity does inform us on what's possible and the work that can transpire on a daily basis to continue to help grow our program. We will work hard through finals this week and start preparing for the Patriot League Championship."
The first varsity eight clocked in with a time of 7:29.423 for its fourth-place finish in the third-level final against Temple, Drexel, and Marist. Colgate's second varsity eight earned a fourth-place finish in the third-level final, finishing in 8:02.633.
Wrapping up race competition, Colgate's second varsity four placed fifth out of five teams with a time of 9:09.206, narrowly edged out by fourth-place Cornell in the heat. The Raiders finished third in the final (9:33.465), trailing Drexel and Temple.
