Raiders’ Varsity Four Claims Silver
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Colgate women's rowing team competed in the Head of the Fish Regatta on Saturday afternoon, with four of the seven boats finishing in the top 11 of their respective races.
"For most of the team, this was the first race of the fall," Head Coach Jim Lister said. "We were certainly put to the test to not only navigate a competitive field of crews but to also take on challenging conditions out on the water. A headwind with gusts above 20 mph made for a longer and heavier race."
Colgate's 1v4 boat did not let the adverse weather deter them, placing second out of 34 teams. The crew of Rebecca Carew, Marie Clausen, Ella Siegenthaler, Genna Lamphier and coxswain Kat Metcalf paced out a time of 14.02.82 to claim silver.
The Raiders' top eight-seater placed seventh out of 19 crews in 1v8 competition, racing a 12.16.00 and finishing four seconds behind in-state rival Cornell. The 2v8 also performed well, sliding into 11th place with a time of 13:58.67.
The younger Raider rowers produced a positive result, too, capturing eighth place in the novice 8+ race.
