EASTON, Pa. — Colgate had a strong second half but could not find the back of the net, dropping a 1-0 decision to Lafayette Saturday evening.

The Leopards got an early lead when Nadia Zaffanella found the back of the net off a pass from Emily Coe.

The Raiders outshot the Leopards 5-3 in the second half. A minute into the second, Paige Foa had an open look at the goal, but a Lafayette defender stepped in at the last second and knocked the ball away. Colgate got awarded a free kick in the 52nd minute but could not make anything of it.

Alli Popham came up with a big save in the 56th minute when a Leopard player received a through ball and ripped a shot from the midway point of the box that the junior saved on a diving stop.

In the 67th minute, Lyna Schaffer connected on a header that got saved, leading to the Raiders' first corner of the game. Nine minutes later, after the ball got loose in the box, Schaffer fired one that got deflected over the goal, resulting in another Colgate corner.

Lauren Rougas had an open look in the 79th minute, but her shot landed just wide of the left post. Seven minutes later, Ally Giovino had a chance in front of the goal that was saved by the Leopard's keeper.

Jocelyn Rowe had the Raiders' first chance in the sixth minute when she found some space and fired one from outside the box that went over the goal.

Popham made a pair of saves in the first half. With three and a half minutes left, she made a diving save to deny the Leopards.

FROM THE SOURCE

"Proud of the way our team responded in the second half and really laid their hearts and bodies on the line in super challenging conditions. It's definitely not for lack of desire for our team with the way the results have fallen. We will go back to the grind this week and continue to scrap and claw and give ourselves a chance to come away with results in the final two games of the regular season. This is a team with seniors and leaders who will never quit, and I know these past two heartbreaking results will fuel us heading into training in preparing for Army."
