Colgate's Season Ends in PL Semifinals
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Colgate's season ended Thursday evening in the Patriot League semifinals with the No. 6 seeded Raiders fell 1-0 to No. 1 Army on the road.
The Black Knights scored in the 77th minute to take the lead with a goal from Brigid Duffy.
The Raiders tried to respond less than a minute later when Ana Schremp ripped a shot that got saved. Six minutes earlier, Sophie Wand had a chance when she turned and fired one from outside the box that sailed over the top of the goal.
Colgate's first opportunity came 15 minutes in. After a cross got served into the box, Paige Foa passed to Demi Maroudas, whose shot got blocked. Foa then had a follow-up shot right in front of the goal, but she got denied on a last-second diving save by Army's keeper. The shot led to the Raiders' lone corner kick of the game that they could not capitalize on.
Colgate generated a couple of other chances in the first. In the 26th minute, Maroudas played a cross into the box, but Colgate could not get a foot on it. The Raiders also had a free kick in the 31st minute that resulted in a ball landing in the box that got scooped up by the goalie.
Army controlled possession for much of the first, but Colgate's backline held tough to keep the Black Knights off the scoreboard in the opening 45 minutes.
Alli Popham made two saves in each half. With 19 minutes remaining, the Black Knights had an open look right in front of the goal, but the junior made a beautiful save to deny them.

Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson
"I am very grateful for this team and this season. It was far from a smooth ride, and this group faced a ton of adversity, but they never gave up nor allowed themselves to be deterred from seeking excellence. In the end, we had a chance to do something special, and they couldn't have put any more out there than they did. Our seniors have a lot to do with that. It was both a blessing and an honor getting to start my career at Colgate with them, and I am grateful for the journey we've been on together. To bookmark their time here in the PL Tournament suits all that they've given to this team, and they've left the jersey in a better place than they found it. We came up against a very good Army team tonight. Tons of credit to them, they found a way when it mattered. But I definitely won't take away from the fight our girls put on and am excited for what's to come for the future of this team and program."
