Raiders Tame Leopards, 9-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla.  — First-year Niamh Dougherty knocked in three scores while Jillian Herbst, Kara Fusco, and Adrienne Nardone tallied two RBIs each as Colgate clipped Lafayette, 9-1, in the final game of the T-Mobile Tournament.

Colgate pounced on the Leopards early with a three-run first inning. Rachel Carney earned a walk in the Raiders' first at-bat and her Patriot League-leading ninth stolen base to put a runner in scoring position with no outs.

Nardone capitalized on the opportunity, sending a shot up the middle to take a 1-0 lead.

After a Fusco pop-up pushed runners to second and third, Dougherty put one in the gap to tack on two more scores in the bottom of the first.

A one, two, three inning from Maya Servedio in the circle put the piping-hot Raider bats back at the plate, allowing Nora Megenity to single with one out and set the stage for the top of the Colgate lineup.

Carney drew another walk which allowed Herbst to lift an RBI double into the left field gap that put the Raiders up by four runs.

Colgate was not finished in the second, as Nardone would pick up her second RBI of the day with a SAC fly before Fusco singled home Herbst and Kiley Shelton with two outs.

Herbst added the Raiders' eighth run in the bottom of the third with a single that scored Megeneity, marking Herbst's second game this season with two or more RBIs. Dougherty scored the second run of the third frame and picked up another RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Servedio conceded one score over the next two innings, but it was not enough to keep the sophomore from recording her first collegiate win.
