BALTIMORE – Alexa Acker's go-ahead RBI double in the top of the seventh lifted Colgate to a 5-4 victory over Morgan State in Game 2, helping the Raiders salvage a doubleheader split after dropping the opener 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Acker's RBI knock was one of Colgate's 10 hits in Game 2 and scored Quinn Livesay, who paced the Raiders offensively going 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Lily Haluska and Acker each had two hits. Acker also earned the win in the circle, pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Game 1 | Morgan State 1, Colgate 0
- Morgan State struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, and that was all it would need to take the first game of the doubleheader.
- Maya Servedio settled in from there despite shouldering the loss, hurling five consecutive scoreless frames. She yielded eight hits with three strikeouts and just the one earned run over six innings of work.
- Colgate's best chance came after Amanda DeSantis led off the fifth inning with a single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alexis Romero, but she was stranded there with a flyout and a groundout keeping the Raiders off the board.
Game 2 | Colgate 5, Morgan State 4
- Colgate's bats got going in the third inning of the nightcap. Analisa Raffaeli kept the frame alive with a two-out double, and she scored one batter later when Livesay launched her sixth home run of the season to put the Raiders in front 2-1.
- The Raiders sent eight batters to the plate in a two-run fifth inning to pad their lead. Haluska ripped a single up the middle to score Claire Whalen before DeSantis worked a walk to stretch the margin to 4-1 after five innings.
- Morgan State climbed back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring all three runs with two outs. An RBI single from Amber Rivas leveled the score at 4-4, which set the stage for Acker's go-ahead double in the top of the seventh to salvage the doubleheader split.
