Raiders Falter in Spring Games Finale

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla.  — Rachel Carney, Quinn Livesay and Kara Fusco all hit .500 across Monday's doubleheader, but it was not enough to push Colgate past LIU or Columbia in Madeira Beach. The Raiders ended their three-game winning streak with a 9-3 loss to the Sharks in game one, and closed the afternoon with a 5-4 heartbreaker to the Lions on a walkoff homerun

Game 1 - Colgate 3, LIU 9
Bailey Misken only allowed two hits through the first two innings, but the Sharks broke through in the top of the third when Colgate errored twice and allowed five runs to cross the plate.

An immediate response came in the bottom frame when a double steal from Carney and Elizabeth Nitka tallied the first Raider run and cut the lead to four. With the stolen base, Carney increased her total to 14 on the season, the most in the Patriot League.

Another Raider rally in the bottom of the fourth pushed Dani Rosner across the plate, but LIU reasserted the four-run cushion when a passed ball allowed another run to score in the top of the fifth.

The Sharks added another three insurance runs across the next two stanzas, despite a Livesay RBI single that scored Niamh Dougherty in the sixth.

Colgate's final opportunity looked promising with the top of the order leading off the seventh, but they were retired in order to end the Raiders' win streak at three games.

Game 2 - Colgate 4, Columbia 5
Colgate led for six and two-thirds innings against Columbia, but two home runs in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Lions to escape with a walk-off win.

The Raiders struck first in the second stanza when Nitka sent a hard-hit ball to shortstop, where an error allowed Livesay to round third and score.

The third inning saw Jillian Herbst homer to center field for her second hit of the game, and Misken mowed down the Lions for the next three frames.

Columbia cut into Colgate's lead in the sixth, but Kiley Shelton immediately answered with a two-run double to send the Raiders into the final inning with a 4-1 advantage.

However, back-to-back two-run long balls from the Lions in the bottom of the seventh sent the Raiders packing in their final contest of the Spring Games.
