Women’s Tennis Triumphs over Florida National
Box Score MIAMI —The Raiders won their fourth straight match Monday morning, defeating Florida National 7-0 in the first of three spring break matchups in Miami. The squad won all 15 sets, bringing their overall record to 9-6.
"Nice way to kick off spring break for the ladies today," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "They are really on a serious roll now at 9-6 overall. Much like Holy Cross, we swept the doubles and singles today, winning all 15 sets. We adjusted to the heat and wind very well. Next up, a very talented Omaha team tomorrow."
The squad began doubles with a bang, as sophomore Carina Cristobal and senior captain Eliza Podlas won 6-1 at line two. The dominant duo of junior Amelia Galin and sophomore Sophia Montero continued their strong season with a 6-3 triumph at line one to lock down the doubles point. First-year Rebecca Hess and senior captain Addie Eklund added on a 6-3 win at line three doubles.
The Raiders continued their dominance in the match with singles action, as multiple players finished their action in under 50 minutes. Cristobal won 6-3, 6-1, followed shortly by Hess winning 6-1, 6-0 at line five. At line one, Galin won 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the matchup for the squad. Podlas added a 6-2, 6-2 win at line six, and Montero finished the sweep with a 6-0, 7-5 win at line two.
The Raiders continue spring break action with a matchup against Nebraska at Omaha on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
