Raiders Keep Rolling at Lafayette
Box Score EASTON, Pa. – For the second consecutive duel, junior Addie Eklund delivered in the clutch in singles court four to clinch a 4-3 win at Lafayette. The victory makes two wins in a row for the Raiders who improve to 3-1 in the Patriot League, solidifying their fourth-place spot in the standings with one league duel left in the regular season.
"I'm at a total loss for words with our talented, courageous women," head coach Bobby Pennington said. "I mean to win five matches by a score of 4-3 is incomprehensible in one season. Even more amazing is my hero Addie Eklund clinching three of those matches."
"This puts us at 10-8, 3-1 in the league, and in the driver's seat for a good, high seed," Pennington continued. "I just love our ladies and the direction the program is headed."
A quick Colgate lead came from the doubles decision when Sophia Montero/Amelia Galin won in the first slot, 6-2, and Eliza Podlas/Avery Isaac claimed a court three triumph by the same score.
Gigi Bohan doubled the advantage when she romped on court six, 6-0, 6-0, and the Raiders seemed in control after Carina Cristobal claimed a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win on three.
The Leopards did not roll over, however, with wins on five and two to knot the score at three all.
After dropping her first set, 4-6, Eklund stormed back winning a 7-6 (7-0) tiebreaker in the second frame. The junior fell behind 5-3 in the third set before a heroic comeback that culminated in a 7-5 triumph to clinch the duel for Colgate on the road.
