Eklund Earns Academic All-League Honors
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate women's tennis junior Addie Eklund was one of six Patriot League student-athletes voted to the conference's Academic All-League squad. The computer science major held a team-best 12-7 record in singles play this season including a 4-1 mark in Patriot League competition.
"Addie is a great example of a student-athlete excelling on and off the court," Head Coach Bobby Pennington said. "Tennis-wise, she has played everywhere from one to four singles and always has an amazing record. Academically, she takes her studies quite seriously and has an outstanding GPA."
Eklund was a perfect 2-0 on court two with a 6-4 mark in the fourth slot, where she played the majority of her matches for Colgate. In league play, Eklund delivered the clinching point with a 6-3, 5-7, 5-4 win when the Raiders beat the Bison of Bucknell, 4-3, for the first time since 2017.
The very next week, Eklund clinched the duel again for Colgate with another three-set thriller (4-6, 7-6, 7-5) as the Raiders downed Lafayette on the road. Eklund also clinched a Colgate triumph in out-of-conference play with a three-set victory against Haverford College in Orlando, Fla.
Off the courts, Eklund has been honored with the Colgate Dean's Award for Academic Excellence for two-straight years while also landing on the Patriot League Honor Roll both seasons. She interns with both the Seattle Tennis Club and Vimly Insurance, while also working with startup tech company Sloop Software where she coded and designed smartphone apps.
The 2023 Academic All-Patriot League selection also attended the United States Naval Academy Leadership Conference in January as one of four Colgate student-athlete representatives.
