Raiders Beat Bison for First Time Since 2017
Box Score LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colgate women's tennis beat Bucknell for the first time in seven years with Addie Eklund delivering the decisive blow in a 4-3 victory.
"I can't praise our women enough for that win today at Bucknell," head coach Bobby Pennington said. "It was a giant win and one of the top five regular season wins I've had at Colgate. It takes us to 9-8 overall and vaults us up in the league standings. Bring on Lafayette."
Despite a Sophia Montero/Amelia Galin 7-6 victory in first doubles, Colgate was swept on courts two and three which put the Raiders in an early 1-0 hole.
The Bison claimed another point after a triumph on singles court one, but the Raiders were quick to strike back when Gigi Bohan won 6-2, 6-4 on six.
Carina Cristobal dropped a three-set battle in the third slot (6-2, 0-6, 5-7) which put Colgate's back against the wall with three matches to play.
Amelia Galin was not phased, however, calmly bringing the Raiders to within one when she beat the Bison 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 in singles two.
After over two hours, Eliza Podlas escaped court five with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory to set the stage for Eklund on four.
Eklund brought Bucknell to deuce point in the third set, but inclement weather forced the match to be moved indoors. Over four and a half hours later, Eklund emerged victorious when a big-time forehand forced an errant return, clinching Colgate's second Patriot League win of the season.
