Owens Honored as Patriot Rookie of the Week
HAMILTON – For the first time this season Colgate Volleyball's Tiana Owens has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Owens was a spark plug in Colgate's 2-0 weekend, which featured 3-1 victories over Loyola and Bucknell to help vault the Raiders into a tie for first place atop the Patriot League standings. The first-year right-side hitter led the team with 25 kills and an average of 3.13 kills per set.
In Colgate's 3-1 win over Bucknell, Owens shined by racking up 13 kills and five block assists to go with a .267 hitting percentage. The win for Colgate snapped Bucknell's nation-leading 15-match winning streak and locked the two teams in first place at 7-1 each.
Owens put up solid numbers in Colgate's 3-1 triumph at Loyola well, finishing the match with 12 kills, two digs, two block assists, and a .296 hitting percentage.
Owens is Colgate's second Patriot League weekly honoree this season. She joins Milan Bayless, who was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
